There is a huge difference between the braking distances of the premium tires (like Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear or Pirelli etc.) and the budget category tyres made in China. Considering a pedestrian crossing is about 5 meters ahead, a car fitted with cheap, bad quality tyres might hit a pedestrian, however a car fitted with better quality and more expensive tyres is able to stop quicker. Stopping with budget category tyres is possible too, taking into consideration that the driver is careful and experienced.

AutoBild magazine tested 52 summer tyres of which results can be found on the chart below. The dimension 225/50 R17 tyres were tested. The magazine’s way of testing was by measuring the braking distances of the models on wet road from 80 km/h and on dry road from 100 km/h velocity to zero.
